Sign reads: “slow down stop we are giving out treats”

This sign was created by Frankie, age 3. Her original sign (transcribed by me at the preschool) can be seen on the left. On the right is the version of her sign I made through Jordan Rosenblum and Ashley Yang-Thompson’s Signs of the Psychic City project in Downtown Portland.

My work as a preschool teacher is a part of my practice. I think that young children have a particularly interesting view of the world around them and I like to create opportunities for them to share their views and thoughts. I have also found that children of this age group are very interested in the process of making their work official or professional in some way. This project is a way of making their words and thoughts more visible to the public.
